Criminal Statistics

According to the Crime in the US Report published by the Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the FBI, Linn County law enforcement agencies received 998 reports of index crime offenses in 2017. Property crimes were recorded to be the leading subset of offenses with over 900 reported incidents alone. Of the entire property-crime subset, larceny-theft accounted for 58.9% of the reports received, while burglary and motor vehicle theft were the second and third most-reported offenses with 266 and 115 reported incidents respectively. Aggravated assault was recorded to be the most popular in the violent-crime subset and the fourth most reported crime, constituting 4.8% of the total index crimes. On the other hand incidents of murder, rape, robbery, and arson were the least reported in the 12-month span.

Criminal Records

The Oregon State Criminal Justice Information Services Division serves as the central repository for criminal record information of persons in Oregon. The Division processes requests for criminal records and background checks in compliance with state laws. At the county level, this service is provided by the Linn County Sheriff's Office which generates and maintains reports and records of criminal activity within county limits. Essentially, Linn county criminal records may be obtained at the state or county level.

How to Get Criminal Records

The criminal records available through the Linn County Sheriff's Office primarily feature information regarding county-level misdemeanor offenses, arrests, convictions, and pending dispositions.

The Sheriffs Office provides these records to members of the public in compliance with Oregon State Record Laws. Thus, all criminal record requests must be made by completing the Records Request Form which may also be used to request incident reports and location checks.

To make criminal record requests using the form, the requestor must provide the full name, date of birth and social security number of the subject of the record. The application must be legibly filled and submitted along with the indicated fees to:

How to Find Sex Offender Information

All information regarding sex offenders residing in Linn County is housed on the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registry which lists the location, compliance status and risk to re-offend or registered offenders within the state. County residents may search the registry by the name of an offender, their code, specific addresses or by their proximity to locations within the county. All jail-related information can be requested from the Sheriff's Office or Jail Personnel at (541) 967-3901. Intending visitors are required to study the handy visitation guidelines before scheduling an appointment at the facility. Only persons named on the inmate's visitation list can be allowed access to the detainee, and visitors must present a government-issued ID upon arrival before gaining access to the facility.

Where and How to Get Inmate Information

Information relating to inmate welfare and commissary, visitation, inmate mail, gift and contact mediums may be retrieved from the Jail Information Page of the Sheriff's Website. However, detainee-specific information including primary charges, arrest and booking dates, bail and bond conditions and prospective court dates may be viewed using the Current Inmate Roster maintained by the Sheriff's Office. Where and How to Get Court Records

Records of court cases heard by the Linn County Circuit Court are retained and disseminated by the office of the Circuit Court Clerk. As per state laws, county residents may access copies of non-confidential court records upon request. Court record requests may be made by making in-person queries to the county courthouse or by sending a record request via mail.

Record requests generally require that the requestor provide the case name and case number as well as the list of documents being requested. Similarly, requests may simply be made by completing the Public Records Request Form. Requestors will be charged $0.25 per copy of the record requested, $5.00 for certified copies and $3.00 per case for emailed copies.

Vital Records

The Oregon Center for Health Statistics maintains and issues records of vital events that occur throughout the state. In compliance with state laws, these records are strictly issued to eligible persons. At the county level, birth and death records are maintained and disseminated by the Linn County Department of Health Services, while marriage and divorce records are disseminated by county clerk offices. Essentially, Linn county vital records may be obtained at the state or county level, the eligibility requirements remain the same across the board.

Records of divorces granted by Linn county courts are maintained and disseminated by the office of the County Circuit Court Clerk. Where and How to get Marriage Records

The Linn County Clerk's Office is tasked with issuing marriage licenses to intending couples within its jurisdiction and retaining records of marriages licensed by its office. Interested persons may request copies of marriage records by making in-person or mail requests to the office. Where and How to get Birth and Death Records

The Vital Statistics Office of the Linn County Department of Health Services processes requests for records of births and deaths which took place within county limits. In compliance with state laws, these records can only be accessed by persons who meet the eligibility requirements.

To be eligible to obtain a birth or death record, the requestor must be a subject of the record, a direct relative of the subject, a legal representative of either party or persons legally authorized by court order.

In addition to government agencies, county public records may also be obtained from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for expansive searches. Record seekers may either opt to use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records.
